This page is about Henry Calvin Pulliam and Sherilda Jane Long Pulliam.
Henry Calvin was born either February 10, 1855 orNovember 6, 1859, the reason for the confusion is the bd on his death cert and the one on his headstone are different. Henry was the son of Calvin Pulliam and and Nancy (maiden name unknown). His parents were born in North Carolina.
Sherilda Jane Long was born January 6, 1956 and died April 14, 1945. The name Sherilda is spelled many different ways on different documents. I use Sherilda, since that is the way I first found it on family pictures. On her death cert it is spelled Serilda, on her headstone it is spelled Serrelda.
Sherilda was the daughter of Nancy C Lincoln and John W “Hoppy” Long. Sherilda was born in Mayfield Missouri as were both of her parents.
The first child of Henry and Sherilda, was a daughter, born November 27, 1880 in Bollinger County, she was named Rosa Adeline and was called Rose. Rose married Henry J Lincoln. Rosa was Henry’s second wife. It is interesting to note that one of Henry Calvin’s grandaughters married a stepson of Rosa Pulliam Lincoln. Rosa died November 10, 1949. Rosa had four children and four stepchildren. Rosa is buried at Cook Cemetery in Bollinger County Missouri.
The second child was Ellen Serilda Pulliam born December 25, 1882 in Bollinger County. Ellen married Lee Estes and was the mother of nine children. Ellen died January 30, 1925 shortly after the birth of the ninth child. The child, name Ellene, was born January 30, 1925, died February 15, 1925. Ellen and Lee also had a baby girl that died at age three years. After Ellen died, Lee remarried to Maudie May Cook and had eight more children.
John Calvin Pulliam was born September 2, 1884. He married Fronia Eveline Looney, 13 October 1910. They had nine children. John died May 1954
Curby Arnold Pulliam was the second son of Henry and Sherilda. On some records his name is given as John Kirby. On his draft card his name is Curby Arnold. He was called “Curb”. Curb was born September 6, 1891. Curb was married twice, once to Zoie Cook and again to Selly Elizabeth Angle James. Selly was also married twice. Her first husband was Enoch James.
It is interesting to note that Enoch James was married twice. His first wife was Sherilda Hanners who was a neice to Henry, daughter of his sister Gillian Pulliam Hanners.
Curb had five sons and three daughters.
Harley “Harl” Andrew Pulliam was born July 5, 1895. Harl served in WW1 and was a member of the American Legion. Harl married Metti Mary Grindstaff and they were the parents of eight children. Harley died September 21, 1955.
Harley had two sons that died as infants. Harley, his wife, his babies and Lowell, his son, are all buried at Patton Cemetery.
An interested note about Harley, his granddaughter, Joyce, married my brother Steven.
Sarah Francis Pulliam was born May 10, 1898. She married Pervis Crites July 4, 1916. They had three daughters and one son. Their son, Hobert, was killed in WW2. Their daughter, (living) Crites married the step son of Rosa Pulliam Lincoln. The last I heard, this daughter of Sarah and Pervis was still living. Sarah died October 17, 1991. Sarah, Pervis and Hobert are buried at Cook Cemetery in Bollinger County MO. There is a monument at the Marble Hill Courthouse that has Hobert’s name on it as one of the Bollinger County men that died in war.
Jesse Pulliam was born between 1898 and 1900. Jesse was married to Nealter Louise Crites on September 21, 1919. His second marriage was to Gertie Brewer. He was also married to Edith Hitt. Jesse was the one son of Henry and Serilda that moved a lot. On his parent’s and sister’s obits, he is living in Missouri, Arkansas and California. He had one child while living in Missouri, a girl named Essie May. Essie’s mother was Maudie May Cook. Jesse died, January 24, 1972 in Woodville, Tulare County California. According to his obit he had been a resident there for 18 years. Children listed in his obituary were Milford, Curtis, J.R. Mary, Lula and Effie. Jesse is buried in the Woodville District Cemetery. At the time of his death he had 41 grandchildren
I have not been able to find much information on William R. Pulliam born April 12, 1899 and died October 1, 1918. He died at Fort Pike and may have died during the flu epidemic that took the lives of so many at that time. I now have unverified information that William died aboard a ship of soldiers returning from the war. His headstone says “died October 1, 1918 Camp Pike”.
Gertrude E Pulliam was born June 29, 1902 and died January 3, 1922 at the age of 19 years, 6 months and 5 days from pneumonia. Gertrude was not married and had no children
Ernest Edward was born October 25, 1906. He married Donna Grable 20 May, 1926. They had five children. Ernest died December 3, 1977
